Peoria Ranked “Best Place to Live in IL”

A national publication has ranked Peoria as the best place to live in Illinois.

US News: Peoria, Illinois | Overall Score 6.3/10

Peoria, which was rated as the 50th best place to live in the U.S., beat out the Quad Cities (ranked at 53rd), Chicago (79th) and Rockford (127th).

The report by U.S. News & World Report focused on 150 cities, providing separate rankings for the best place to live, the best place to retire, and the cheapest place to live. Peoria was rated 9th for the cheapest place to live, but only 97th for the best place to retire. Warm weather apparently puts cities higher in the ranking for retirement – the report’s best-rated retirement cities were in Florida.

Rankings were determined through an analysis of public data and user opinions, and take into account the job market, the housing market, and other factors that relate to resident satisfaction like crime, the educational level of residents and air quality.

The report on Peoria, which was written by former Journal Star opinion editor Mike Bailey, gives detailed information about the community, from housing to entertainment.

OSF HealthCare Construction Updates

OSF HealthCare – located at 530 NE Glen Oak Ave in Peoria – marked a new era in August of 2021 with the groundbreaking for the OSF HealthCare Cancer Institute, a 180,000-square-foot building on the campus of OSF HealthCare Saint Francis Medical Center in downtown Peoria. It is expected to open to patients in early 2024.

From the OSF HealthCare Cancer Institute website:

“When cancer is what we’re fighting and it’s the future we have to lose, audacity is our greatest hope. It lives in everything we do. It lives in tomorrow’s innovative technology, in world-renowned research and in our top partnerships with like-minded institutions. It lives in our Mission, to serve all persons with the greatest care and love. The OSF HealthCare Cancer Institute is the most ambitious philanthropic endeavor in OSF’s history. We understand the magnitude of this vision and it will only come to fruition with the financial support of people like you, who share our foresight. With your help, we can make Peoria and Central Illinois a destination for hope, healing and world-class treatment. Together, we can usher in a new day for cancer care — giving cancer patients the promise and possibility of many new tomorrows.”
